The first round of the 2009 WSK series, held at Muro Leccese (Southern Italy), had a special importance, since it marked the official debut of the new and recently homologated CRG chassis. "We have been very satisfied with the results of tests carried out on the 2009 CRG chassis before the meeting, although we are still in an early stage of our development", the CRG team manager commented.

At the wheel of his CRG-Maxter, Arnaud Kozlinski opened the dance and set the best time at an event which is always very appreciated: the Super Pole, organised in the top category, the Super KF. With his usual talent, the French driver always remained in the leading group and showed all his competitiveness by setting the best lap in one of the heats. "I really felt that victory was within my reach. At the start of the final, I did not want run any risk because I knew the race would be long, covering a distance of 40 km. Then, at the end of the race, I found myself shoulder to shoulder with Cesetti. My equipment was great, but I could not find an opening. A podium meant a lot for the team, so I did not try the impossible. It was also a good decision in the context of the Championship", Arnaud concluded. Belgian Jonathan Thonon, who finished sixth, completed the excellent result achieved by the CRG team, while his compatriot Stoffel Van Doorne (VDK Racing team) was fourth in KF2, with his CRG. A good result for this young driver, who still has limited international experience!

Maxter: From the Super Pole to the Podium

A first observation can be made about the 2009 WSK debut: many teams have chosen Maxter engines to drive at the top of their performances on the international scene. "In addition to CRG, our historic partner, Maxter has provided its engines to Zanardi, DR, Maranello, LH as well as Maddox" Nico Carigiet noted at La Conca. "Moreover, we were very well represented in all the categories, from Super KF to KF2 and KF3. And it will be the same in KZ2, when this category makes its debut in March, in Sarno". In Super KF, Arnaud Kozlinski and Aaro Vainio (Maranello), who has just arrived from KF3, set the best times during the Super Pole. These two drivers repeated their excellent performances during timed qualifying, and Jonathan Thonon also achieved some good results. Finally, Kozlinski crossed the finishing line in second position, a very encouraging result for this season debut. Already very fast during timed practice, Stoffel Van Doorne (CRG-Maxter) finished 4th in KF2, where Sami Luka (DR) showed all his talent by reaching the top 3 three times in the qualifying heats, before being struck by bad luck. And in KF3, Dutch Joey Elkerbout reached the fifth position with his Zanardi in timed practice, preceding Finnish Mikko Pakari (Maranello). Winner of two heats, Elkerbout was equally good during the qualifying phase, which Pakari finished in second position. Unfortunately the final phase was fatal to these two fast kartmen.
