CRG Reveals Its Goals

Drivers wearing the colours of the Italian make brought home some prestigious titles during their international campaign, such as Max Verstappen's triumph at the WSK Euro Series in KF3, one of the most popular categories, or Jonathan Thonon's new success in the most coveted event of the year, the World Cup for KZ1. Now CRG and Maxter are already looking to 2012, again with some great ambitions for the official team presented recently...No one doubts that the makes belonging to the CRG group will be again among the protagonists of this season. "2012 is a new homologation year for chassis and tests performed recently have made us very optimistic about our chances of success", its president Giancarlo Tinini commented. "We ended 2011 on a high note with our chassis, on which we had already introduced some innovations that are now available on the market. We also expect a lot from the Kali-Kart brand we have brought back to life. We will have drivers officially representing the brand new version of this chassis".As for CRG new official team racing in the KZ1, KZ2, KF2, and KF3 classes, it will be formed of young drivers with recognised talent as well as promising junior drivers. "We are not going to enter the World KF1 Championship in 2012: its calendar and regulations are not in harmony with our ideas" Giancarlo Tinini added. After the countless victories achieved in the last few seasons in the 125cc gearbox class, CRG focus will be evidently on KZ. Respectively first and third at the World Cup, the Belgian Jonathan Thonon and the Italian Davide Forè will be together in KZ1, with three team mates as their back up: the Belgian Jorrit Pex, as well as the Italian drivers Mirko Torsellini, KZ2 revelation in 2011, and Fabian Federer. The latter is current European KZ2 Champion and has well deserved his place in the top category. The Italian Felice Tiene, a great protagonist of the World KF1 Championship last year, and the Briton Jordon Lennox-Lamb will have a very busy programme, being engaged on two fronts, in KZ2 as well as in KF2! Quite a challenge indeed, and something that greatly motivates these two drivers well known for their burst of speed.CRG also expressed its gratitude to Max Verstappen, Arnaud Kozlinski, and Laura Tillett for all they did for the Italian make. These drivers will no longer be part of the official team, which will now welcome a group of new recruits. A former Rotax star, the Briton Luke Varley will be back in the KF2 category with his fellow countryman Tom Joyner, 2011 British Champion, who will race behind the wheel of a LH chassis.A young Spanish driver gifted with great potential, Alex Palou, will also join the official team in the KF3 class together with a US driver, Santino Ferrucci. Ferrucci has often taken the opportunity to make himself noticed on the other side of the Atlantic and will be keen to prove his worth. In addition to this, there will be numerous drivers aiming for victory all over the world, in all the categories, with a CRG, a Maxter or another product provided by the CRG group...

Once again it was in KZ that the Italian make achieved its best results with the World Cup for KZ1 conquered by Jonathan Thonon at Genk while Davide Forè brilliantly made it to the third step of the podium, in both cases on CRG/Maxter karts prepared by Tec-Sav. But KZ2 drivers were equally good: Fabian Federer won the European Championship, Mirko Torsellini emerged as the best performer of the year, constantly figuring in the leading places. He won the WSK Final Cup, concluded the WSK Euro Series in second place, was third at the European Championship and he could have even won the World Cup, had it not been for a problem during the pre-final. On that occasion, Jorrit Pex took the second step of the podium and Federer joined him on the final podium on the third step. A long list of satisfactory results for CRG. 2012 official line up in KZ1 will consist of these 5 drivers: Thonon, Forè, Torsellini, Federer, and Pex.The KF1 class also provided some good results to the team from Desenzano, such as Jordon Lennox-Lamb's victory at the Belgium round of the World Championship, followed by Felice Tiene, who took the second step of the podium before showing his burst of speed at Sarno. The British driver concluded in beauty by claiming second place at the Asia-Pacific Championship in Macao. But CRG is not going to continue along the path of a five round World Championship that only gathers a few entrants. Lennox and Tiene, who will also race in KZ2, will be present in the hardest fought class for karts without gearbox, KF2, in addition to a new and effective recruit, Luke Varley. Max Verstappen triumphed in KF3 at the WSK Euro Series, but was not equally successful during CIK meetings. The Spaniard Alex Palou will take back the baton this year together with a young and promising American, Santino Ferrucci. The 2012 racing season will start soon for Giancarlo Tinini's team: first with the Winter Cup, followed by the Margutti Trophy at Lonato, the WSK Master and Euro Series, as well as the CIK-FIA meetings (KF1 class excluded). The CRG Racing Team took advantage of this transfer far from home to collect some valuable teachings at the end of the meeting. And first of all, the satisfaction to prove again the effectiveness of its chassis, which anticipates a 2012 marked by high performances, both with CRG chassis and with Maxter engines... While the CRG factory is getting ready for 2012, the official team continues its tireless quest for victories, taking advantage of each new event to further develop equipment. The Italian make has always cultivated the art of achieving brilliant results in the present while preparing for the future, all at the same time. The Asia-Pacific Championship, held at the end of the season in Macao for the KF1 and KF3 classes, provided an excellent occasion to ensure a successful transition from 2011 to 2012."We sell a lot of chassis in this part of the world", a CRG representative commented. "For us, the important thing was to mark our presence with a good result. Congratulations to Jordon on his podium, conquered a bit more than two years after the Super KF World Champion title won by CRG and Maxter on this same circuit of Macao".On a track which is both fast and technical, the Briton Lennox-Lamb made himself noticed several times during the weekend. By moving up little by little in the standings, he concluded with an excellent second place finish. "After my victory at Genk during a round of the World KF1 Championship, it was great to be back on the podium", Jordon confessed, happy with the performances and reliability of his CRG-Maxter.Always very effective, the team placed its three drivers - Felice Tiene, Laura Tillett, and Eddy Tinini - in the top 10. Tiene even climbed up to 5th place during the final, after a difficult race start due to some crashes in the pack. Another remarkable thing is that Hong-Kong driver Jacky Chan Cheuk Hin ranked tenth in KF3 with his CRG-Maxter.Winner of the World Cup for KZ1 as well as of the WSK Euro Series KF3 in 2011, CRG is now heading into 2012 ready to write some new pages of its history...

Entering unexpectedly the S1 category at the famous SuperNationals of Las Vegas, he achieved a great victory on his first participation in the American meeting.Due to a delay that stopped Maxter Tec-Sav engines at the Customs Mirko, who had come to race in KZ2, preferred to chose the safest option and at the last minute entered S1, a 100% US category where Honda 125 gearbox engines are used, not much different from KZ. As soon as Torsellini became familiar with the features of the temporary circuit created in the parking lot of the Rio hotel in Las Vegas, he fully exploited the performances of his CRG chassis to make the difference. Starting from the front row in the final, he quickly took off to cross the finishing line as winner with a lead of several seconds over his opponents. His performance is even more remarkable considering that Torsellini also raced in KZ2, when the engines finally arrived. Starting off a bit back due to the little time available for practice, Mirko was hit in a heat, but recovered in the following ones thanks to his excellent competitiveness. Unfortunately he was forced to retire in the final for technical problems.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

For CRG, the auspices are favourable for 2012 given that Mirko Torsellini was capable of winning the KZ2 final despite a start in the last place in timed qualifying. The two new team recruits in KZ1, Felice Tiene and Jordon Lennox-Lamb, made a successful debut just behind a Davide Forè always in form in sixth place, while Arnaud Kozlinski claimed a nice fourth place before retiring. These good performances from the whole of the team highlight the potential of the CRG chassis as well as the very convincing level reached by the Maxter engines prepared directly by the company, on a technical and demanding track like the Circuito internazionale d'Abruzzo of Ortona, at the presence of the best specialists in the 125cc gearbox class. The final victory conquered by young Mirko Torsellini in KZ2 was the recognition of a very talented driver, who has literally made sparks fly this year behind the wheel of his official CRG/Maxter. But the meeting had not started under the best auspices due to a wheel technical problem and the last place in timed qualifying. But Torsellini managed to overcome these difficulties to get back to the leading pack, while avoiding all collisions and mistakes, which is never easy at Ortona. His mission was finally accomplished at the end of the qualifying heats, and in the pre-final he was already 11th in the classification. Then he remained lucid enough in the final to regain some more ground in KZ1 and crossed the finish line in 6th place overall, valiantly conquering the lead in KZ2.Setting off near the back too in timed qualifying, Arnaud Kozlinski and Davide Foré, racing in KZ1, also brilliantly carved their way through during the heats. The Frenchman made an excellent start in the final and was fighting in the leading pack in 4th place when his chain jumped off and he was forced to retire. Foré did not give up an inch and managed to get back to 6th, not far from the leaders. The two rookies of the official team showed a high level of performance during their first race in KZ1, despite a few mishaps in the heats. Felice Tiene came out slightly better in the classification, concluding with a 7th place behind Foré, while Jordon Lennox-Lamb had to do his maximum to make up for the handicap of a retirement during qualifying, and reached the 8th place in KZ1. Hopes are now high for the 2012 formation of the CRG Racing Team, which next season will focus on the KZ classes. Among the youngsters, the Japanese Jinya Yamakawa confirmed his promising potential in KF3 and a quick progression to the top 10, though he lost some time in the final in the many crashes that marked the start of the race.

It was the realisation of Torsellini's potential, after his constant fight for victory this season. The WSK Final Cup 2011 was chosen by CRG for the debut of its two new recruits, Felice Tiene and Jordon Lennox-Lamb, in the 125cc gearbox class. Habitués of KF1, the two young drivers took this opportunity to prepare for a 2012 season in the CRG official team focussed on KZ. Their adaptation was particularly fast, and they were quickly in the top 10, visibly at ease in the midst of more experienced drivers. Tiene finished 7th and Lennox 8th, despite a very penalising retirement in one of the heats. Davide Foré showed top-level performances despite a few technical problems in timed qualifying, and relentlessly recovered ground over the leaders to conclude his drive in 6th place in KZ1. Arnaud Kozlinski was climbing up brilliantly through the leading pack in the final when his chain jumped off, thus depriving him of a likely and deserved 4th place. While preparations for the 2012 season are already underway, the CRG Racing Team showed at Ortona that it has all the elements, both human and technical, to aim for victory in KZ.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

Two weeks after a new victory by Jonathan Thonon at the World Cup for KZ1 and seven podiums conquered in Belgium, disappointment became the prevailing feeling in Italy. On the circuit of Sarno, Max Verstappen felt his world crumbling around him after a race accident deprived him of a possible victory in KF3. As for Felice Tiene, he also experienced a big disappointment at the World KF1 Championship. But this is the hard law of motor sports, though engineers of the Italian brand could see once again the continuous progress made by CRG chassis and Maxter engines.KF3: Verstappen Believed He Could Make ItMax Verstappen has dominated the WSK Euro Series KF3 for two seasons, but success keeps turning its back on the CRG driver in the European and World Championships organised by the CIK/FIA, although not for lack of competitiveness, which he displays every time. This was again the case at Sarno. After setting the second fastest time in timed qualifying, a mere two hundredths short of pole position, Verstappen won as many as five qualifying heats (out of six), including the one where he raced against the future champion. The second place of the Dutchman in the pre-final allowed him to continue to firmly believe in his chances. "In a Word Cup you take all your chances in just one final and I knew everything could happen", Max confessed. "As a consequence, I was determined to give it all to reach my goal". Unfortunately, starting on the outside of the front row is not always the ideal situation and Verstappen got boxed in at the start. However, he quickly regained the second place, though a duel with another driver sent him off the course. After he went back on the track he had an electrical problem, while the CRG driver had not said his last word for the podium, yet. A big deception that Max Verstappen is determined to forget, in order to make his way to victory again very soon. KF2: LH Shines With Joyner In the sun of southern Italy, the Brit Tom Joyner put the colours of Lewis Hamilton and the LH chassis in full display. Joyner was one of the very few drivers who won at least two qualifying heats. His level of performance had raised hopes of an excellent result, but a crash at the start of the pre-final put paid to all his chances. Unfortunately the final ended with another retirement! KF1: Among the FastestAs in Belgium, engine tune-up specialists of the Italian brand Maxter enabled again CRG drivers to achieve excellent performances on Sunday, after a Saturday to forget. But right after crossing the finish line in second place with a best lap time in Race 3, Felice Tiene was excluded for a not-so-evident technical non conformity. Jordon Lennox-Lamb and Laura Tillett, Tiene's team mates, hoped to take up the baton before being struck by bad luck, too.

After starting far back in timed qualifying, the Belgian driver progressively powered his way up the order in the qualifying heats while the team was adding the finishing touches to the setup of his chassis. His victory in the pre-final was a good omen, but the first laps of the decisive final were not favourable to no. 60. Lap after lap, Thonon used all his talent and the resources of his kart to get to the lead. In second place at the start of the last lap, he put the leader under pressure to try a textbook overtaking manoeuvre, a few metres before the finish line, and conquered the World Cup with a photo-finish victory. Fantastic!CRG's triumph was completed by the excellent performances shown byDavide Forè and Arnaud Kozlinski, 1st and 2nd in timed qualifying as well as in the provisional classification after the heats. With his Maxter straight from factory, Kozlinski ended up third in the pre-final, while Forè took 5th place. Their order reversed in the final, with Forè on the third step of the podium and Koko in 5th place, a fantastic team result for the CRG make. The World Cup for KZ2 also proved the effectiveness of CRG chassis in this category, with Mirko Torsellini poleman in timed qualifying. The final phases were complicated by a series of incidents and a few technical problems, but Yard Pex took his CRG/Maxter to the second step of the podium, while Fabian Federer (CRG/TM) moved up from 17th to 3rd place. Torsellini made a feat by starting from 30th and climbing up to 6th, with the fastest lap in race.Jordon Lennox-Lamb was able to battle against the best drivers of the World KF1 Championship, whose third round was held in Genk. On Saturday, he stood twice on the second step of the podium and achieved his best result of the season. Perfectly on the pace, Felice Tiene conquered a fantastic third place in Race 2 and then fought again in second place in Race 4, before losing ground in the last few laps. CRG/Maxter karts had the opportunity to show their great potential, in all the categories, during this superb weekend of world competition in Belgium. Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

Jonathan Thonon (CRG-Maxter) triumphed for the 4th time at the World Cup for KZ1, while his team mate Davide Forè took the third place. At the World Cup for KZ2 too there were two CRG drivers who climbed on to the podium, with Yard Pex and Fabian Federer in second and third place respectively. As for the Tiene-Lennox Lamb duo in KF1, they conquered as many as three top 3 places for their team! Black, the colour so much liked by CRG Company, has been undoubtedly the dominant colour at this 2011 major world event... KZ1: 4th Word Cup in 5 Years! From timed qualifying to the final race, CRG drivers constantly maintained the leadership in the most important category of world karting. Davide Forè took pole position ahead of Arnaud Kozlinski, proving the qualities of both the Maxter engines prepared by engine tune-up specialist Tec-Sav and of those coming directly from the Maxter factory workshops. These two drivers maintained what they had gained at the end of the qualifying heats.Affected by rain, this time the pre-final saw the domination of another CRG-Maxter, driven by a Jonathan Thonon in full progression. But some squabbling in the pack pushed Thonon and Forè back to 5th and 6th respectively after the second lap of the final. But at the end of a race of rare intensity, Thonon took the lead a few bends before the finish line and conquered a new world title for CRG. "It is a moment of great pride for the whole team and for all those who worked in the factory to improve our karts. We are very satisfied with this new world title for Thonon, as well as with Forè's 3rd place and Kozlinski's 5th position", a CRG team member commented. KZ2: 2 CRG Karts on the PodiumComposed by several private drivers, division 2 of 125cc gearbox kart class showed more than ever the quality of the chassis and engines manufactured by CRG and Maxter. Results of the final race speak for themselves for this reference material for KZ: CRG was the best represented make, with 6 chassis that qualified for the final phase, including four in the top 6 and two on the podium. An extraordinary achievement! Without the gearbox problem suffered by Torsellini and a crash for Federer, the title would have been within their reach. These two drivers also brilliantly climbed to third and sixth place respectively, with a best lap for the latter. Finally, the best result was achieved by Yard Pex (CRG-Maxter/Tec-Sav), who fought his way up from eighth to second. Ranked fourth, Kristijan Habulin also contributed to this fantastic CRG group achievement in KZ2. KF1: Lennox-Lamb in the ForefrontHighly competitive in KZ, CRG-Maxter karts were equally brilliant in KF. Hard development work has been fruitful, which is promising for the forthcoming chassis homologations, this winter. "The Genk track is a very technical one and I was particularly satisfied with my kart behaviour this weekend. The CRG team is incredible and always finds the best technical solutions to put us in a position to win", Tiene said. On track, CRG achieved a long series of good results at this third round of the World KF1 Championship: Jordon Lennox-Lamb - who had already conquered second place in Race 1 - and Felice Tiene climbed on to the second and third steps of the podium in Race 2, on Saturday. The following day, Tiene concluded again in the top 3, but due to some touches in the pack he lost a few places just when the finish line was in sight.

Finally, he won the KZ2 hands down on Saturday and took the second place overall, with only one KZ1 driver preceding him. On Sunday, Torsellini won again a heat, but just when the KZ2 was within his grasp, he could not move from the start grid of Final 2. Forced to retirement, he lost all his chances to win the Championship, which he finished 2nd. He also involved an unlucky Davide Forè, who had been very competitive since the start of the meeting. As for Arnaud Kozlinski and Jonathan Thonon, they battled until the end. Thanks to his engines coming straight from the Maxter factory, Kozlinski conquered a nice 5th place, while Thonon proved to be the best CRG driver in the Championship thanks to a 4th place overall.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP

For a driver of his calibre, a start from the first row of the pre-final logically paves the way to victory. But sometimes race mishaps can come in the way. A contact by another driver forced Max down to 27th on the first lap. Determined as usual, he climbed back up to 16th place at the end of the race. After making an excellent start in the final, he was 9th on the second lap when he was hit again and sent into a spin, going down to 28th. During another frenzied recovery he fought his way to a final 14th place, a disappointing result, considering his huge potential.Info Kartcom / © Photo KSP
